Every line speaks without words.
Every tradition tells its story.
Created by five artists from the Karo community, this original wall hanging is inspired by the remarkable artistic traditions that have defined Karo cultural identity for generations.
Hand-painted on canvas using white pigments and finished with a protective matte varnish, the composition explores the rhythm of lines and geometric forms that characterise Karo artistic expression. Every element reflects a visual language through which identity, creativity and belonging are shared.
Every pattern has intention.
Every composition honors a living tradition.
Rather than recreating body painting, this artwork offers a contemporary interpretation inspired by the people of the Karo community and the creativity they continue to carry forward.
Created with respect, it celebrates a living culture where art is not only seen—it is lived.

About the Karo Community
The Karo people are renowned for transforming the human body into a living work of art.
Using natural pigments made from white chalk, ochre, charcoal and minerals gathered from their surroundings, intricate patterns are painted by hand. Every design is unique, expressing identity, beauty and belonging while reflecting traditions that have been passed from one generation to the next.
For the Karo, artistic expression is woven into everyday life. Body painting is more than decoration—it is a celebration of creativity, individuality and cultural heritage. Each pattern tells a story, connecting people to their community, their ancestors and the landscape they call home.
The remarkable artistry of the Karo people became the inspiration for the Karo Collection, where contemporary artworks honor the beauty of a living culture and the people who continue to keep its traditions alive.
Where the body becomes a canvas.
Tradition becomes art.
