Traditions live through people.

Every generation carries the story forward.

Created by Wegeneye Ermyaso in Bazate Village, this original leather wall hanging is inspired by the living traditions of the Ari community.

Using traditional steel and wooden tools, intricate patterns are carefully burned into natural leather. The designs draw inspiration from the symbolic body art of the Ari people—an artistic language that reflects identity, belonging and generations of shared knowledge.

Every mark tells a story.

Every pattern honors a tradition.

Created with deep respect for the people who inspired it, this artwork celebrates the enduring beauty of the Ari community and the cultural heritage they continue to carry forward.

About the Ari Community

The Ari people are one of the largest communities in southern Ethiopia, where traditions continue to shape everyday life.

Creativity is woven into their culture. Homes are decorated with hand-painted murals made from natural pigments, pottery is crafted using techniques passed down through generations, and body art expresses identity, beauty and belonging. Jewellery, woven garments and handcrafted objects all reflect a deep connection to family, community and the land.

For the Ari, art is not separate from daily life, it is part of who they are.

This rich cultural heritage became the inspiration for the Ari Collection. Through contemporary artistic interpretation, we honor the beauty of their traditions and the people who continue to keep them alive.

Every tradition tells a story.

Every story deserves to be honored.
