About the Karo Community
The Karo people are renowned for transforming the human body into a living work of art.
Using natural pigments made from white chalk, ochre, charcoal and minerals gathered from their surroundings, intricate patterns are painted by hand. Every design is unique, expressing identity, beauty and belonging while reflecting traditions that have been passed from one generation to the next.
For the Karo, artistic expression is woven into everyday life. Body painting is more than decoration—it is a celebration of creativity, individuality and cultural heritage. Each pattern tells a story, connecting people to their community, their ancestors and the landscape they call home.
The remarkable artistry of the Karo people became the inspiration for the Karo Collection, where contemporary artworks honor the beauty of a living culture and the people who continue to keep its traditions alive.
Where the body becomes a canvas.
Tradition becomes art.
